I was there, too!  It was my 15th birthday, my first concert, and I worshipped Led Zeppelin & Robert Plant.  What a day!!

I was 16 at the time.  We spent the night in the BART tube adjacent to the stadium, avoiding the drug addicts and transients.  But, it was summer time and I was waiting to see LED ZEPPELIN.  Awesome.  Sat on the grass looking up t Robert Plant in his "Nurses Do It Better" t-shirt.  I've told this to people over the years, but it's nice to get some confirmation that I remember it correctly.  I also remember that there was a fight the next day with Bill Graham or some of his people and some of the LZ people that caused the Sunday show to be cut short.  I don't know what happened.  I just remember hearing that and being thankful that I was at Saturday's show.  I also remember Derringer and Judas Priest.  I was not a big fan of either of them, but I recall they were both great.  I went out and bought Derringer's album the next day.  Awesome photos, but none of me and the very large bong that was being passed around.

I was 17 and went with a few old neighbors of mine. I lived off of MacArthur Blvd. I had to cross a live BART rail to get across because I didn't have a car getting there. I managed to get in an hour before the concert and walked through a sea of people towards the stage on the green. Don Kirshner's people were walking around checking for overdoses. Somebody spiked punch with a lot of LSD. This was my first rock concert. Lets just say I didn't know the three purple triangles I saw were Judas Priest at first, but they played very well. By the time I prayed to god and came down it was time for Led Zeppelin. Their music played right through me. Certainly the best way to experience their music. I remember for a while some girl was riding my shoulders bouncing a beach ball back into the crowd. I realized the crowd behind us didn't have a good view of Plant and set her down. Never piss off a thousand people surrounding you. The crowd couldn't get enough music. We all hung out for half an hour hoping for more. I suppose you always want your fans wanting more. I found a ride home with my head buzzing for a week. Great experience.

Best show ever in my book - easy to get to the stage as everyone was wasted and passed out!

I had the full attention of the forty thousand + crowd because i was on the third level where i guess no one was supposed to be and i had my back to the stage looking into the parking lot when i heard the crowd getting really loud. so when i turned around everybody was facing me trying to get my attention. so i guess robert plant got everyone to yell at me until i turned around so my brother and friends came up to get me down. it is something special to remember that day and the attention that i got from the mighty LED ZEPPELIN.

I stole $12 out of the till @ my first job; Bim's Donuts in Fremont, CA., to get my Zep ticket for my first concert in Oakland, CA in 77. I am a fan and a thief.

the roar of the crowd when they took the stage. Major, major, rush for me. Was up close, having got in early. Wish I was a little more sober, probably would have remembered in more detail. But, o well, don't regret a thing. They were, and still are, the greatest musical group I have ever had the privelege of hearing. Zeppelin forever!!

My friends and I went up from San Jose in my 1965 Cady Fleetwood. A partner Tom took his car 69 fire bird drop top. His ride broke down 1/2 mile from the exit. We piled 9 people into my Cady and proceeded to the show. They got most of our boose on entry but the CHICS stash made it in, SO, what I can remember of the show IT WAS RAD. Luck had it one of us "ROD's" dad owned a towing company. Tom car was home before we were. WE HAD A N AWSOME TIME!

I was at this gig with a girlfriend, traded a pack of marlboro for 2 tickets..
FOR REAL !! ''Day On The Green'' Rick Derringer opened for Zeppelin
we would wait for the 1st band to start, the scalpers would then freak and get anything they could for their tickets.
Tickets were $12.50 ... Hhmm

I was there! About 30 feet from the stage. Waited hours for Zep to take the stage after sets by Judas Priest & Rick Derrringer. The infamous backstage brawl occurred after this gig between Zep security and Bill Graham Presents security and the Zep gig the following day at this venue was to be their last ever in the USA, unknown to all at the time. Since then I have met Robert & Jimmy and spoken to them about this infamous gig. Jimmy vividly recalls the 'security thugs' at the front of the stage, manhandling the patrons in the very front of the crowd, much more aggressive than any Zep entourage antics....according to Jimmy. When I told Robert I was at this gig, he asked me if I was backstage..... I knew exactly why he was asking.....

I think I was there. But then maybe not.

I lived in the Bay Area, but was staying the summer in Southern California with my Dad. My dad was getting married on the same day of the concert. I was a the concert! My brother and some friends picked me up a the oakland airport. We sayed the night at the London Lodge in oakland. We took some incredible LSD and the entire concert was animated. I would never change a thing about this day! Led Zeppelin, what more do I have to say

My sister won the tickets on KMEL and I talked her out of them on the day before the show. I remember squeezeing my way to the front for the Dazed And Confused (shortened version) and Stairway. Took some 110 kodak pictures on the same day.I remember the show was a great accomplishment to finnaly see Zeppelin.

up front center i was!! ---- on Sat july 23 1977 --
and how did i get there? i arrived at the complex 23 hours earlier. on Friday the 22nd, i arrived the 7th person in this little circle of a line
- lined up outside the parking lot gate.
we, all of those in line, stayed there all day and all night, the line kept growing longer and longer, people were driving by shouting 'Zeppelin!!'
The Head Hunters cruised by. yeah Oakland knows who they are.
one particular instance i will never forget!
a car came by and started honking his horn from the beginning of the line to the end.. which was basically a vanishing point,
i couldnt see the end of the line,
the horn went honnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnk for a mile.

on the 23rd they opened the parking lot gate and we all ran across the parking lot to the ticket gate..
well after 40 people crowded in the front of the line at the parking lot gate, i still managed to make it the 8th person in line to get in to a LED ZEPPELIN concert.. my dream was coming true, he tore my ticket badly! and i ran down the stairs; as Here Comes The Sun by the Beatles was playing over the PA; into the coliseum right out into left field and center field. there were only a few people there, who seemed kinda lost trying to figure out where they wanted to stand.
i had the WHOLE STAGE to choose from where to stand
its like 40 wide and 10 or so foot high. i just found center and backed up a bit, away from the stage, so i could see the drum riser and all of Bonhams drums. i could see the whole stage perfectly . i was standing next to a guy in a wheel chair, on the BEST spot there was to see from. Thanking God i am.
i just sat down watched the whole place fill up around me
i stood there and NEVER moved thru Judas Priest and Rick Derringer..
i didnt even go to the bathroom, or get a drink, or even buy a T-shirt!!
i would have never made it back to this spot if i had left it.
theres no way i will leave this spot.
this is my one and only chance to see Led Zeppelin. my#1
They played 4 and a 1/2 hours.

Robert Plant said at the end,
"How are all of you people getting home?"

It caused me to remember, oh yeah i got dropped off here by my mom yesterday and i have to hitchhike home from oakland to sacramento.
there were already 25 people standing at the freeway hitchhiking before i got there, i was thinking how do i get a ride? how do they know if im going their way? i wrote 'sac' on a little piece of paper but no one could read it.
THEN i looked up and saw a van i recognised and the driver i knew named GLENN and i shouted out to him and he picked me up and drove me to my house 70 miles away. carte blanche treatment for me. i was blessed that day.

we all know they are amazing.
i wouldnt have missed this concert for ANYTHING!!
i was 17
i had to find a job to buy the ticket.
you all know the rest.

Jimmy..Robert, John Paul and John..
It was a perfect day, i didnt hear a missed note or beat.
Thank you for finally coming to Northern California that day for me.
i really felt like the songs were written for THAT DAY
a cosmic thing,

i am a musician now because of Led Zeppelin.
Dazed and Confused LIVE is my anthem. i still dont think people really know what jimmy page is really doing ripping into his endless array of riffs, always staging and supporting his next riff. i dont even know what i am saying, except PAY ATTENTION guitarists.

I remember the energy of that day was really eerie. the overcast day, was one of the first on the feild. it felt like something sinister was happening,(backstage) Still the greatest show I will ever witness!

Dennis's picture

Went both days...Got into Sunday's show with extra Saturday tickets. No ticket barcode scanners back then. Just had to find the ticket taker that looked the most Long 2 plus hour delay after Derringer on Sunday, but worth the wait. Zep can bring it live like no other band. Great memories, hot and packed out in right center field.

Also went to the Kezar stadium show in '73 with Lee Michaels and the Tubes as opening acts. Great time growing up in the '70's in San Francisco!

I was 15 and this was a GREAT first concert! I brag about it all the time. I don't remember if it was the Sat. or Sun. show, but I do remember strangers all heading to the show passing around a joint in the back of the AC Transit bus over from SF at 6 in the morning! I also remember about 500 people trying to squeeze through about a 3-ft. wide gate in the cyclone fence when they opened the gates into the parking lot about 9 am. I surprised no one got killed! That was totally hairball. The show was incredible, especially the acoustic set, which I learned later was something they hadn't live done in years. I have been a huge Zep fan since (or even before) and I measure all rock bands against them. None can live up to them, of course,
